FURNISHING & STYLING

Thoughtfully furnished. Beautifully finished. Ready to enjoy.

Furnishing a home is not simply buying furniture. It is the coordination of furniture, lighting, textiles, artwork, accessories, delivery and installation so that everything arrives in the right order and the property feels complete, calm and lived-in from the first day.

WHY FURNISHING BECOMES COMPLICATED

A furnished house is several hundred decisions that have to agree with each other.

A villa of reasonable size involves hundreds of individual choices: sofas, beds, dining, storage, rugs, curtains, lighting, bed linen, glassware, outdoor furniture, shading, artwork. Each one is easy alone. Together, they have to share a palette, a scale, a level of quality and a delivery schedule.

Then comes logistics. Lead times differ by months between makers. Lighting has to be on site before the electrician finishes. Curtains cannot be measured until the floors are laid. A single sofa arriving in the wrong fabric can hold up the styling of an entire floor.

Cavalma coordinates that process on the owner's side. We work with trusted suppliers, showrooms, workshops, upholsterers and installers, and we hold the schedule, the budget lines, the approvals and the site access in one place - so the owner makes decisions rather than chasing deliveries.

Cavalma does not manufacture furniture and is not an official partner of any brand. We are a Private Office coordinating independent suppliers and qualified professionals on your behalf, with pricing and terms presented as they are offered.

WHAT USUALLY GOES WRONG WITHOUT COORDINATION
  • Hundreds of unrelated product decisions
  • Lead times discovered too late in the programme
  • Colour and material inconsistency between rooms
  • Furniture proportioned for a showroom, not the space
  • Lighting specified after the electrical work is closed
  • Deliveries arriving before the property is ready
  • Installation, assembly and waste left unmanaged
  • A house that is full but never finally styled
THE FURNISHING JOURNEY

Ten stages, from first conversation to the final styled room.

The sequence is deliberate. Decisions that constrain other decisions - layout, lighting, materials - are taken first, so that later choices have somewhere to sit.

  1. 01

    Initial consultation

We visit the property, or review plans if it is not yet complete, and understand the brief: what is being furnished, to what standard, by when, and with what budget shape.

  2. 02

    Lifestyle assessment

How the house will actually be used. Permanent home, part-year residence, family arrivals with children, guest bedrooms in constant use, or a property that must present well for rental or sale.

  3. 03

    Space planning

Room-by-room layouts with dimensions: circulation, seating positions, dining capacity, bed sizes, storage and the proportion of each piece relative to the space it occupies.

  4. 04

    Concept and palette

A written direction with a material and colour palette, reference imagery and the character of each room, so that the whole house reads as one decision rather than several.

  5. 05

    Furniture selection

Specific pieces proposed against the plan, with dimensions, finishes, fabrics, lead times and prices, presented for your approval in a single comparable schedule.

  6. 06

    Material coordination

Fabrics, leathers, timbers, stone and metal finishes are reviewed together as samples so that textures and tones are confirmed in the property's own light.

  7. 07

    Lighting selection

Decorative lighting chosen alongside the electrical layout: pendants, wall lights, table and floor lamps, dimming and warmth, coordinated with the electrician before finishes are closed.

  8. 08

    Decoration and artwork

Rugs, curtains, cushions, bed linen, tableware, mirrors and artwork specified as a layer in their own right, rather than bought hurriedly at the end.

  9. 09

    Procurement and logistics

Orders placed, deposits and payments tracked against your approvals, production monitored, shipping consolidated, and a delivery sequence agreed with the property.

  10. 10

    Delivery, installation and final styling

Access coordinated, pieces received and inspected, assembly and hanging supervised, packaging removed, and the house styled room by room before handover.

HOW WE WORK

One relationship holding suppliers, schedule and budget together.

Owners rarely lack access to beautiful furniture. What they lack is the time and presence to run a procurement programme across several countries, in two or three languages, against a completion date they cannot attend.

Cavalma stands on the owner's side of that process. We prepare the options, present them clearly, place and track the orders once approved, and remain accountable for the result arriving as agreed. Suppliers remain suppliers; we do not present their work as our own manufacture.

  • One point of contact

Showrooms, workshops, upholsterers, shippers and installers are coordinated by us. You have one conversation, in your language.

  • Written schedules

Every proposed item appears on a schedule with dimensions, finish, lead time and price, so approvals are made on facts rather than mood boards alone.

  • Transparent costs

Supplier prices and terms are presented as they are quoted, with our coordination fee agreed separately and in advance.

  • Remote approval

Owners abroad approve by schedule, photographs and video walkthroughs, with sample packs sent where a material has to be felt rather than seen.

  • Proportion before purchase

Nothing is ordered until it has been placed on a dimensioned plan. Scale is the most common and most expensive furnishing mistake.

  • Longevity

We favour pieces that will still be right in ten years - repairable, re-upholsterable and suited to coastal light and use.

WHAT IS COORDINATED

The full scope of furnishing a private residence.

A programme is assembled from what the property needs. A completed villa awaiting its first summer requires a different scope to an apartment where only the principal rooms are being refreshed.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Scandinavian restraint, in Mediterranean light.

Cavalma's direction is consistent: calm interiors built from natural materials, generous in space rather than in ornament, and intended to age well in strong coastal sun.

All imagery on this page is editorial reference material illustrating the design direction. It does not represent completed Cavalma projects.

  • Timeless before fashionable

We select pieces that will not date within a season. A house furnished around trends needs replacing; a house furnished around proportion and material does not.

  • Natural materials

Oak, linen, wool, stone, ceramic, leather and brushed metal. Materials that gain character with use rather than looking tired after two summers.

  • Calm palettes

Ivory, limestone, sand and taupe as the base, with depth introduced through texture and a small number of considered accents rather than colour everywhere.

  • Functionality

Furniture is chosen to be used: seating that is comfortable for an evening, tables that take a full family, storage that absorbs real life.

  • Quality before quantity

Fewer, better pieces, with space left around them. An under-furnished room reads as considered; an over-furnished one never does.

  • Understated luxury

Quality is felt in the weight of a door handle and the fall of a curtain, not announced through visible branding.

PROCUREMENT & LOGISTICS

The part of furnishing that decides whether the date is met.

Selection is the visible half of furnishing. The half that determines whether a house is ready for August is procurement: lead times, deposits, production updates, consolidated shipping, customs where relevant, storage, and a delivery order that matches the state of the building.

We track every order against your approved schedule and tell you early when a date is at risk, together with the alternative. Owners are informed in writing, with photographs, rather than discovering a delay on arrival.

  • Order placement against approved schedules
  • Deposit and payment tracking
  • Production and lead-time monitoring
  • Consolidated shipping and storage
  • Delivery sequencing with site readiness
  • Receipt, inspection and damage claims
  • Assembly and installation supervision
  • Written progress updates with photographs

Where furniture is imported, applicable duties, taxes and shipping terms are confirmed with the supplier and presented to you before an order is placed.

FINAL STYLING

The last week is what people remember.

A house can be fully delivered and still feel unfinished. Final styling is the stage where the property stops looking supplied and starts feeling lived in.

It is also the stage most often skipped, because it happens exactly when everybody is tired and the deadline has arrived. We plan and staff it in advance.

  • Room-by-room styling

Placement of accessories, books, objects, plants and lighting so that each room reads as composed rather than arranged around the furniture delivery.

  • Beds and bathrooms dressed

Bed linen, throws, towels and bathroom essentials specified, laundered and made up so the house can be occupied the day it is handed over.

  • Kitchen and table

Glassware, tableware, cookware and everyday equipment supplied and put away in a logical order, ready for the first dinner rather than the first inventory.

  • Handover and care notes

A written record of what was supplied, with fabric, cleaning and care guidance, plus supplier details for future additions or repairs.

MARBELLA AND THE COSTA DEL SOL

Furnishing for coastal light, salt air and part-year occupancy.

The coast is demanding on interiors. Direct sun fades textiles and bleaches timber; salt air attacks unprotected metal; a house closed for eight weeks in humid heat treats fabrics differently to a permanently occupied home in a cooler climate.

Specification responds to that. Sun-stable fabrics on south-facing terraces, finishes selected for humidity, outdoor pieces chosen for genuine exposure rather than showroom appearance, and materials that tolerate being left unused between visits.

  • Marbella and the Golden Mile
  • Sierra Blanca and Nagüeles
  • La Zagaleta and Benahavís
  • Sotogrande
  • Estepona and the New Golden Mile
  • Puerto Banús and the coastal apartments
  • Light and fading

Orientation is checked before fabrics are confirmed. Terrace and south-facing rooms take sun-stable textiles and finishes.

  • Salt and humidity

Metals, leathers and outdoor materials are specified for coastal exposure, with protection and storage planned for closed periods.

  • Access and logistics

Gated urbanisations, hillside approaches, lift dimensions and community delivery rules are confirmed before large pieces are ordered.

  • Seasonal deadlines

Summer arrivals and rental seasons set immovable dates. The procurement programme is built backwards from them.

SELECTED PROJECTS

Published only when there is real, documented work to show.

We do not publish invented case studies, project counts, client names or photographs of work we did not coordinate. As furnishing projects complete and owners are willing for them to be documented, selected examples will appear here.

This section is intentionally empty until verified Cavalma work is available to publish.

QUESTIONS

Furnishing and styling, answered plainly.

Can you furnish an entire villa?

Yes. A full furnishing programme covers every room and the outdoor spaces: furniture, lighting, textiles, artwork, accessories, kitchen and table equipment, delivery, installation and final styling, so the property can be occupied the day it is handed over.

Can you work with furniture we already own?

Yes. We inventory what you wish to keep, place it on the plan first, and build the new specification around it. Where a piece no longer works in the space, we will say so and explain why rather than quietly replacing it.

Can owners approve selections remotely?

Yes, and most do. Selections are presented as written schedules with dimensions, finishes, lead times and prices, supported by photographs, plans and video walkthroughs. Where a material has to be felt, we send sample packs before you approve.

Do you coordinate deliveries?

Yes. We track production, consolidate shipments where possible, agree a delivery sequence with the state of the property, arrange access with the community or gated urbanisation, and receive and inspect every item on arrival.

Do you organise installation?

Yes. Assembly, placement, curtain and blind fitting, mirror and artwork hanging, packaging removal and post-installation cleaning are supervised. Electrical connection and structural fixing are carried out by qualified professionals.

Can outdoor furniture be included?

Yes. Terraces, poolside areas and gardens are treated as rooms in their own right, with materials and fabrics specified for real coastal exposure rather than showroom appearance, and winter storage planned.

Can you coordinate artwork?

Yes. We work to a written brief and budget, coordinate with galleries, dealers and framers, and manage placement, lighting, transport and hanging. We do not act as an art dealer and we do not advise on artwork as an investment.

How long does furnishing a villa take?

It is governed by lead times rather than by our availability. Readily available pieces can arrive within weeks; bespoke upholstery, made-to-measure joinery and imported items commonly take several months. Lead times are shown on the schedule before you approve anything.

How is the budget handled?

We agree a budget shape at the outset and present options within it, with supplier prices and terms shown as quoted. Our coordination fee is agreed separately and in advance, so the two are never mixed.

Do you have exclusive agreements with furniture brands?

No. We are not an official partner or exclusive representative of any brand, and we do not claim discounts we cannot evidence. We select suppliers on suitability, quality, lead time and reliability, and present their terms as they are given to us.

Can you furnish a property intended for rental?

Yes. Rental specification is different: durability, replaceability, cleaning tolerance and complete equipping matter more than rare pieces. We specify accordingly and keep a record so items can be replaced consistently later.

Can furnishing run alongside a renovation?

Yes, and it should. Lighting, curtain fixings, joinery dimensions and floor finishes all affect furnishing decisions. Where we also coordinate the renovation or supervise the project, the two programmes are planned as one.
